Terms of use
Last updated October 13, 2026
NextUpKara is run from Michigan. By using it you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.
What NextUpKara is
NextUpKara runs the queue at a karaoke party. Singers join from their phones and ask for songs, the karaoke master keeps the line moving, and the screen plays the karaoke track. That is all it is: a way to spend the night singing rather than fiddling with laptops, playlists and search boxes.
We do not own the music
None of the music belongs to us. The songs, the recordings, the lyrics and the karaoke videos all belong to their artists, songwriters, labels, publishers and the people who made the videos.
- Every karaoke track is a video on YouTube, uploaded there by somebody else and played through YouTube's own embedded player. We do not host, copy, download, store or sell any music or video.
- What we keep is a list: song titles, artist names and links to videos that already exist on YouTube.
- Using NextUpKara gives you no rights in any song or video. Nothing here is a license to perform, record or share anything.
- We are not affiliated with YouTube, Google, or any artist, label or karaoke channel. Their names appear only so you can find the song you want.
- Videos come and go. An uploader or YouTube can remove one at any time, and then it will stop playing here.
Singing in public
Performing music for an audience can need a public performance license, usually through organizations such as ASCAP, BMI and SESAC. Getting one is for the venue or whoever runs the event. NextUpKara does not provide one, and running a party here does not count as having one. A few friends singing in a living room is a different thing from a bar open to the public; if you are not sure which you are, ask the venue.
If you own something listed here
If a link here points to your work and you want it gone, email [email protected] with the link and what it is. We will take it off the catalog promptly. To remove the video itself, contact YouTube, which hosts it.
Your account
- You must be at least 13 to make an account. Younger singers at a kids' party can sing from a parent's account.
- Use a name you are happy to have called out to a room. Keep your password to yourself.
- A karaoke master can block somebody from their own party. We can block an account from the whole site for abuse, spam, or anything that puts other people off singing.
Being decent
Names, dedications and reactions show up on a screen a whole room can see. Keep them friendly: nothing hateful, sexual, threatening, or aimed at hurting somebody, and no advertising, links or phone numbers. Dedications are checked automatically before they go up, and anything can be held back or taken down.
Paid effects
- Where the karaoke master has switched them on, you can buy effects for the big screen: song celebrations such as fire, confetti, fireworks, roses and make it rain, a standing ovation, or a dedication. The price is shown before you pay.
- Payments are taken by Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- What you buy stays on your account until you use it, at that party or any later one with effects switched on. It cannot be exchanged for money, and it ends if you delete your account.
- Payments are not refunded, except where the law says they must be or where we failed to deliver what you paid for. A dedication the check will not show is not used up; you can reword it. If something went wrong, email [email protected] and we will look at it.
Karaoke masters' share
- A karaoke master earns 50% of what is left of each paid effect bought at their party after the card processing fee.
- It is paid by hand, weekly, to the Venmo or Cash App account they give us, once they are owed at least $10.00. Smaller amounts carry over.
- We can change the share for future payments with notice. A change never alters what is already owed.
- Karaoke masters are not our employees, and are responsible for their own taxes. If the law requires us to collect tax details before paying, we will ask.
- We can hold back a share connected to a refund, a chargeback or misuse.
Tips
Where a tip jar shows, tipping is entirely up to you. It goes through Venmo or Cash App, under their terms, and buys nothing.
No guarantees
We work hard to keep NextUpKara running and the catalog accurate, but it is provided as it is. Videos can fail to play, the wrong version can turn up, and the site can be down. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss from using it, and our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the three months before the problem.
Changes
We may update these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed, and if a change matters, we will say so on the site. Using NextUpKara after a change means you accept it.
The law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan.
