NextUpKara keeps what it needs to run a karaoke party and very little else. We do not sell your information, we do not show ads, and there are no advertising trackers on the site.
What we keep
- Your account: your email address, the name you sing under, and your password, stored only as a one-way hash we cannot read back.
- What you sing: the songs you ask for, at which party, and your favorites, so the queue works and you can find your songs again next time.
- Searches that found nothing: the words typed, without who typed them, so we know which songs to add.
- Reactions: which emoji were tapped during which song, without who tapped them.
- Dedications and paid effects: what was bought, the words of a dedication, and the name it was sent under. If you choose to leave your name off, the room does not see it, but the karaoke master may.
- Payments: what was bought, the amount and Stripe's reference for it. Never your card number.
- Karaoke masters: the Venmo or Cash App username you give us for your share, and what you have earned and been paid.
- Security: the internet address a password reset was requested from, and the browser name on a device that stays signed in. Like most websites, the server also keeps ordinary access logs, which include internet addresses.
Cookies
Two, and both are there to make the site work: one for your visit, and one that keeps you signed in on your own device for up to a year. Signing out removes it. There are no advertising cookies.
Counting visits
We count visits with Umami, which we run ourselves at analytics.thedacg.com rather than handing to an advertising company. It records which pages are opened, the site you came from, your browser, device type and country. It sets no cookies, does not store your internet address, cannot tell who you are, and leaves out anything you typed into a search. If your browser is set to ask sites not to track you, it counts nothing at all.
Who else sees anything
- YouTube plays every karaoke track through its own embedded player, and when you preview or play a song, YouTube's player can set its own cookies under Google's privacy policy.
- Stripe takes payments for paid effects. You pay on Stripe's own page, under Stripe's privacy policy.
- Brevo delivers our emails, so it handles your email address and the message.
- Venice AI checks dedications before they go on a screen, and helps work out what a search that found nothing was looking for. It sees the words of the dedication or the search, not who wrote them.
- Venmo and Cash App handle tips and karaoke masters' payouts, under their own terms.
- The room: your sing name shows on the screen and in the queue at the parties you join, and the karaoke master running a party sees who is in their queue.
We share information beyond this only if the law requires it.
We send:
- Emails about your account, such as a password reset code. These are not optional while you have an account.
- For singers, at most once a week: where karaoke parties are coming up near you.
- For karaoke masters: summaries of recent parties, and what you are owed and have been paid.
That is all. We will not use your email to advertise anything else, and we will not give it to anybody to advertise to you. You can turn the weekly email off at any time on your account page.
Children
You must be 13 or older to make an account, and we do not knowingly collect information from younger children. At a kids' party, children can cheer from a phone without an account, and anyone signing up songs should do it from a parent's account. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we will delete it.
How long we keep it
Your account stays until you delete it. Deleting it removes your email, your name, your password, your favorites and anything you have waiting in a queue. Songs you sang at past parties stay in those parties' records with no name attached, and payment and payout records are kept for as long as the law and our accounts need them, which can be several years.
Your choices
On your account page you can change your sing name, your email and your password, turn the weekly email off, and delete your account. To see everything we hold about you, email [email protected] from the address on your account.
Changes
If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and the date at the top, and say so on the site if the change matters.
